Dearborn Considers Allowing Leashed Dogs in Parks
The Dearborn Recreation Commission is inviting the public to an Aug. 4 meeting to discuss whether dogs on a leash should be allowed in Dearborn Parks.
The meeting will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 4, in Studio A of the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center, 15801 Michigan Ave.
The meeting will cover two parts: whether dogs on a leash should be allowed in City parks, and if so, the rules governing the allowance of dogs in City Parks.
Dearborn is looking at building a park for dogs just off of Gulley behind the Dearborn Racquet and Health Club. Setting up some rules in advance will be a good first step. For that earlier story, click HERE.

Dogs on leashes are already in the parks so what difference does it make? No one ever seems to police this and I guess the dogs can’t read the posted signs either. The city just has so many ordinances that they will never be able to enforce all of them.

I agree with Donna The city for years now has relaxed its enforcement, many ordinances go unenforced anyway so whats the difference.

Donna maaaybe you can apprise the people, that their dogs are defacating in the City, but watch out, because they might do you. Who cares if we have too many ordinances, if they can’t be enforced, get rid of them.

Most dog owners are at least as responsible about cleaning up after their pets as parents are about cleaning up after their children. I’ve yet to see a dirty dog diaper shut down a swimming pool or be carelessly strewn on public property.

The ordinances are being enforced in many parks, and this is a good thing. The safety of our children, who are victimized most by dog bites, should be our primary concern. Also, dog feces cause many diseases and encourage rodents, and eliminating the ordinance will foster both. Sure, many dog owners ignore the ordinance, but right now parents have recourse if that happens. Removing the ordinance is a crappy idea, any way you look at it!

I have no problem with it, unless the owners of the dogs pick up after their pets big messes. Either have the city set up dog droppings stations around the park to have owners clean up the messes (Like ones seen at Petsmart), or fine dog owners for not picking up the messes by a park official.
Walking the dog is great excersize for dog and owner alike.

I have a problem with dogs in the park, I live next to the park and I clean up after someones dog almost everyday . It’s amazing how many people don’t clean up after there dogs. I love dogs, I have a dog. We need to just make an area just for dogs. That would make more sence. As far as enforcing the rules, we need rules for a reason, weather we agree with them or not and we should all follow the rules…
