New Retail Tenant Headed into Former AT&T Store

New retail tenant headed into former ATT store.

New retail is headed into vacant AT&T store.

The long vacant AT&T store on Michigan Avenue is expected to soon have a new retail tenant. Yes, we said retail not restaurant.

While it isn’t yet clear what type of retail will go into the vacant space, we have been told that the space has been leased to a new tenant.

We will chase down the who and the when. But it certainly is a bit of good news for the building at 22137 Michigan Ave., located on a very visible part of Michigan Avenue.

Stay tuned.

I would have really like to have seen The Village Frame Shop go in that spot, but I guess they couldn’t work out an acceptable deal. But any retail would be nice.

This is good news for that area. I certainly hope it turns out better than Newman’s property on Mich. and Military. Whatever happened to that?

  3. hopeful says:

I love Dearborn, but Newman is a joke! Let’s count the businesses that he drove away. Hancock Fabrics, Inca Computers, Tenny Street Roadhouse, Pier One Imports, the 1950’s themed burger place, Poncho Villas, Gelato Roma…..oh, I’m sure there’s more – just can’t think of them all. Yes, I know it is a bad economy, but Newman doesn’t help by increasing lease rates.
Regardless, kudos to the new retail coming soon on Mich. Ave!!!!

    probably another cigar shop

  5. Larry says:

If O’Reilley had any balls, and leadership qualities, he and some of his cronies would have a sit-down with Mr. Newman, and see if something could be worked out, i.e. a business plan, that would be advantageous to both the City and to Mr. Newman. But then again you would have to possess leadership qualities, which our City leader doesn’t have.

the city is still collecting taxes on newmans properties regardless of the fact that they are empty.

  7. Jack says:

Dearborn @1 you must be illeterate. Empty storefronts, aren’t what Dearborn is about, the buildings should be filled. Who cares whose paying the taxes. Lets get a plan, and do something. Maybe they can do something with people who think like you Dearborn #1.

  8. Donna Hay says:

Jack – wonderful idea about getting a plan and doing something – what kind of ideas do you have in mind? I am sure that Fakhoury for one would be more than interested in filling his stores.

  9. dearborn#1 says:

    Hey jackass,

    i mean jack,

A little bit of irony for you, you spelled illiterate wrong,

moving on….my point from my earlier post was that the city makes money on the tax roll regardless of a building being occupied or not.

2nd, dearborn is and has been the empty store front capitol for at least 5 yrs now.

As if I really want dearborn to fail and continue this lack of development and/or progress.

I do not support or defend either of the 2 large land barans in west dearborn, but what exactly would you have the mayor and city government say to these 2?? Do want the city to give them incentives?? which means tax breaks, which comes from us.

let me guess, “try and fill your properties!” nooo shit!!!! “the buildings should be filled!” nooo shit

Your wisdom is overwelming. your long and short term vision is even better.

Declining demographics, lack of regional and national marketing, Cost per square ft and the 2 landlords are the reasons they continue to sit empty.

The city can improve at promoting the area (not the landlords) and the potential opportunites that are here.

This part of Michigan Ave. is a limited area.

Occupants that can cater specifically to the community are what can last. It didn’t help that Little Professor’s was driven out approximately five years ago. What few brand-name establishments exist along that stretch must have adequate parking, which is certainly better (but not enough) on the north side. But their ability to survive is another matter.

The paid parking system is a worthless and losing propostion; I knew it would be before it was implemented. But Dearbonites insisted it was wise. (Consider the south-side parking structures near Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory and Dee’s Hallmark.) That area where Jacobson’s used to occupy…it has little or no future.

Keep fighting this battle; I want to be wrong.

    donna,

Im sure fakoury anf newman can’t wait to listen to a bunch of 75 yrs with zero business experience on how to improve their empty building problems.

is this what happens in old age, you actually believe all your own bullshit on a consistent basis. I think some of you forgot to eat while taking your pills because your crazy!

  12. Donna Hay says:

dearborn #1, I do thank you for entertaining me with your wisdom. When I find the 75 yr. old bunch with zero business experience I will sit down with them and see what they might have to suggest. You just never know they might have an idea or two to contribute. Maybe you can find some people in your age group to do the same, whatever that might be.

    Dearborn #1,

I just had to comment, to you Mr. or Mrs. Spelling Police. If you are going to call out other people for misspelling words
(“A little bit of irony for you, you spelled illiterate wrong,”) you should probably get your own English mechanics in order first.

Here’s some irony for you: you spelled “Baran” wrong. I am not sure if you were going for something like “Raisin Baran” or perhaps “Baran muffin.” Or maybe, with all of the recent presidential hubbub, “Baran Obama?”

Honestly of all ways to misspell “baron” (the correct spelling) how the hell did you decide to use an “a” where the “o” goes? It doesn’t even spell out phonetically. “Barin” I could see. Even “Baren” would be better. But “baran”? Sounds borderline retarded from someone running around correcting other people’s spelling mistakes.

And honestly, Dearborn #1, do you really have to pick on the grandma of the group? That one pretty much comes off in poor taste every time.

  14. Dearbornette says:

Dearborn #1 (some might call you a TROLL, but I won’t go there) why don’t you go and insult your mama and other kin (who may also be older)? I don’t happen to be that age, but that doesn’t mean I won’t listen to what older people have to say, too. You might try it some time, you might learn something. Criticize the opinion, not the writer.

Or take your marbles and go home.

    Have a lovely Sunday.

  15. Cardio says:

Dearborn #1 – the sad part about your postings is that even when the tiniest kernel (or is that cernal? kerrnell? curr-nall?) of a good thought pops out of your brain, you cover it up with insults and attacks. Yes, it’s ironic that the person who called you illiterate misspelled the word. But then you misspell “baron”, which just reiterates the illiteracy question.

If you have a point, valid or not, just post it. You don’t need to insult people or tell us how smart you are. In fact, your intelligence always shows itself anyway.
