Sewer Construction to Begin Along Michigan Ave.
Get ready for some major traffic headaches Monday along a quarter mile stretch of Michigan Avenue in the west Dearborn business district.
Traffic along Michigan Avenue will be reduced to one lane in each direction from Monroe to 700 feet east of Brady to accommodate the city’s storm sewer separation project along Michigan Avenue.
Construction begins Monday, June 22, and will last about seven weeks.
The sewer separation is part of the City’s Combined Sewer Overflow Control Project, which is mandated by the federal government.
The majority of the construction over the seven weeks will take place from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. to reduce the inconvenience created by this improvement project. However, some of the work may be performed during the day, such as concrete paving.

That is going to kill some business, especially during their busy times of the year. Don’t be surprised to see a few more stores close down by the end of the year.

Are they going to repave Michigan Avenue (between Brady and Outer Drive) after the sewer line is installed? Please tell me someone had enough thought to do this after the sewer line is complete and not tear up everything again next spring or whenever the state and city have the money to repave Michigan Avenue.

I am wondering the same thing as Bill. Anyone have any updated, accurate info on repaving Michigan Ave from Brady to Outer Drive/Nowlin? If it’s going to be done, is this the temporary asphalt fix or all new cement?

The patchwork completed on Michigan Avenue between Military and Brady barely made it through last winter. Having said that, I am willing to bet that plans are in the works for another patching (if you will) of Michigan Avenue so as to get by one more year. If no plans are in the works, I am afraid it will be a very long year or more of driving on Michigan Avenue and I will be knocking on our elected officials’ doors asking to have Michigan Avenue repaved. Someone in the current administration and all the hopeful political wantabees had better get it through their heads that nothing is going to help west Dearborn unless the roads are paved and there is a reasonable way to get to whatever is left to attract folks to west Dearborn.

Why is it every time the City undergoes a necessary project to repair the City’s decaying infrastructure, someone whines that it’s going to kill business. Bad roads, sewer collapses and water main break destry businesses. This project is going 24 hours a day to minimize disturbance and complete it by homecoming. It is necessary work as part of the CSO abatement program and the City is being proactive to complete this before the scheduled reconstruction of Michigan Avenue next year.
