Steven Bernard Jewelers Collecting Coats for Needy
For the third consecutive year, Dearborn’s Steven Bernard Jewelers is ramping up for its annual collection of warm coats for the needy in and around our community.
Last year through Bernard’s “Coupons for Coats” campaign, more than 400 coats, along with gloves and scarves, were distributed to the needy, Steven tells DeepsaidWhat.com. The number of donations was nearly double Steven’s first year of donations.
“Naturally, my goal this year is to again increase those numbers,” said Steven, whose jewelry store has been serving Dearborn with many one-of-a-kind items for more than three decades.
The third annual Coupons for Coats campaign is an incentive promotion to help encourage participation. Coat donations given will receive a 20 percent discount coupon from Steven Bernard Jewelers.
This year’s Coupons for Coats begins today, Nov. 14, and continues through Dec. 31.
Steven Bernard Jewelers will be collecting new and clean, gently used coats along with hats, gloves, and scarves. These items will be distributed by the First United Methodist Church of Dearborn. Donations will be accepted during holiday business hours at Steven Bernard Jewelers, located at 22266 Michigan Ave. in Dearborn in the 222 Shops.

This is one glimmer of hope in West Dearborn. Thank you Steve for sticking it out through the ups and now the downs in West Dearborn. Your store is one of the few remaining pillars left in the city, your business presence means a lot.
I am sure it is hard watching people literally run to and from the businesses outside of your back window to try to help save on parking costs. I bet you have volumes to say about what paid parking has done to West Dearborn.
Everyone needs to support small business owners like Steven Bernard, or they too will be gone, replaced with a nail salon….
Just wanted to a a note since this post has been noticeably absent of any as well as thank you for gathering coats for the needy.

Thank you both for the positive feed back with respect to the Holiday Coat Drive and my business in Dearborn. We are off to a good start in coat collections almost 75 items collected in the first 10 days! Now in regards to paid parking. I can not say it has hurt business from a dollars and cents stand point. But it has hurt with respect to the overall attitude of Dearbornites shopping and supporting the local merchants. What I mean is that alot of locals do not like the idea of paid parking within their community so they avoid and shop elsewhere. Or park across the street and run thru the lot in inclimate weather to avoid paying. I hear their complaints daily and have to agree with them. As I have said on other blogs and to the local government ” You have put the cart way ahead of the horse on this one”. Not until we have a thriving viable downtown area with retail shops, retaurants, and bars should the idea of paid parking be introduced. When this happens the public and locals could care less about paying to park after spending time and Dollars in the shopping district. Just look at the other cities that ask you to pay. The ones we are grouped together with and compared to Birmingham, Plymouth, Ann Arbor. I do not know of anyone that has spent a day in any of these cities and complained about paying to park. From day one of paid parking I have tried to inform my clients that I will validate for them. Some ask for the coupons which I give them and others do not bother. One more note, this 15 minutes of free parking is an absolute joke the other cities give more than that. Tell me Mr. Mayor and City Council what do expect someone to accomplish within this time frame. They run in looking at their watch, trying to get out so they do not have to pay. Boy that really keeps them in the city to shopp and spend more mony doesn’t it! Okay so that is my viewpoint on the paid parking fiasco in town. I am open to further conversation on this matter. Everyone have a great Holiday Season and do not forget about those less fortunate than we are that we can help out. That is what the Season is all about. Steven

Thanks for your response. I think that goes along with what’s being said here. I agree, good business, a bit of a break with the parking fees. They don’t even give you the 15 minutes now. I had to pay 25 cents to for a 5 minute stop last week. Thank you for sticking it out here and I hope the city leaders will do something to fix the big mess down there so your business can thrive again and people can take their time and relax and shop and eat.
