Councilman Hosts Event to Benefit Rescue Animals
Two years ago, when a fire destroyed the house of Dearborn City Councilman Robert Abraham, the family’s Labrador Retriever, Dublin, was killed. Abraham, his wife Mary Ann, daughter Mary Kate, and sons Brandon and Jared were not home at the time of the fire but felt the tremendous loss of their family pet. When friends and neighbors offered their assistance, they recommended donations to the Dearborn Animal Shelter
On Sept. 10, almost two years from the anniversary date of the fire and with the family’s house restorations recently completed, the Abrahams will host an “Open House for Hope’s Heroes” to benefit rescue animals with special needs. The event is being hosted together with Friends For the Dearborn Animal Shelter.

Councilman Robert Abraham
“You can always replace your house and your possessions, but you can’t replace a pet who has been a member of the family,” Abraham said. “We decided soon after the fire that we wanted to do something special for the Dearborn Animal Shelter, which benefits so many in our community.”
The public is invited to attend the open house which will be held on Saturday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the family’s home located at 510 Crescent Drive in Dearborn. Dinner and refreshments will be served along with entertainment and special prizes.
“We are very grateful to the Abrahams for generously opening their home to benefit animals who need extra special care,” said Kelle Sisung, development director of Friends For the Dearborn Animal Shelter. “In the past two weeks, dogs have been rescued with collars embedded in their necks. We’ve also had a spate of dogs who are heartworm positive. Hope’s Heroes funds truly help us provide hope.”
Reservations to attend are requested by Sept. 3 via email to rabraham.cpa@gmail.com Contributions of $50 per person are suggested with all donations welcome. If unable to attend, donations can also be made online at www.dearbornanimals.org

If Councilman Abraham really wants to do something to help dogs with responsible owners, then he will sponsor a proposal to allow dogs to use the city parks. But oh that’s right. He’d have to go up against the Big Guy to do that.

Isn’t it possible to take a dog to Crowley Park with the proper licensing? I thought “the big guy” helped to get that passed. Why is it that whenever someone does something beneficial for the community, the “chronic griped” has to put in their two cents.
It sounds like Core Concept is more concerned about taking their pet to a park rather than helping sick animals. It all sounds a little self absorbed to me.
Anyone who takes time to benefit our community in any way should be lauded. (Core Concept may need Webster’s for help here)

This guy only cares about himself. Don’t be fooled by his “hosting” an event to “help” the animals. He has snubbed many other things more important.

Your right he won’t dare cross the big fella, because that could hurt his reelection support — show some balls and stand on your own credetials, that is if u have any.

The Abraham’s dog Dublin was one of the smartest, playful and most loving family pets I have ever seen. If you had been around the Abraham family, like I was when they lost this beautiful “family” member and saw the grief they suffered due to this terrible loss, and if you had seen how it broke the heart of their daughter Mary Kate, a wonderful young lady, even the coldest of hearts would have empathy for the Abraham family.
I know the Abraham family and while Bob and I have “debated” each other on a few issues, I would NOT question his reason at all about why he and his family are supporting this event and the Dearborn Animal Shelter. They are doing it because it is the right thing to do and because of the loss they suffered with that wonderful pet “family” member Dublin, a dog loved by everyone who was around him.
I encourage everyone who can attend, to attend this wonderful event and to help out a wonderful cause.

I personally resent that Abraham sent tickets thru the mail for this event, I resent when a politician assumes u will go, if he sends tickets in the mail — real class act, ticket sales must not be going too well.
