Dearborn Public Service Days end for 2011

Parking restrictions lifted, except in a snow emergency

Dearborn officials are reminding residents that Public Service Days have ended for 2011 and will begin again on April 2, 2012. That means parking restrictions on Public Service Days/trash collection days are lifted for the winter.

When Public Service Days are in effect, drivers are required to keep their parked vehicles off residential streets if it is a trash collection day in that Dearborn neighborhood.

This allows for the smoother delivery of seasonal city services, such as street sweeping, as well as the curbside collection of trash, compost and recycling materials.

Although the parking restrictions are lifted until April 2012, residents are reminded that during a snow emergency, parked vehicles must be off the streets or be ticketed. This is to allow safe and efficient street plowing.

It is also a good idea to remove parked vehicles during any heavy snowfall, whether a snow emergency is declared or not.

Call the Snow Emergency Hotline at 943-2444 for details.

Public Service days are donne for the year, good riddance, its like the only service we presently get, but then again its only to keep the administration acting like they are doing something real important for us. Why not look at other more innovative ways to do things for our City in general, likefor instance bring in more businesses, because we can’t depend on other people to do this like our local Chamber Of Commerce.

All I can say is YAY!!!!! I have high school and college aged kids who live at home and lining up those cars is an absolute nightmare since we have someone in the house works every shift, it is impossible to keep them lined up so the next person an get out. Anybody want to buy a house? I don’t know how much longer I can put up with the constant moving of cars all day happening once a week now.

All that for (1), yes – – ONE leaf pickup????? You have to be kidding me!!!!! I am headed for the Hooka Bar.

Don’t let the door hit you on the way out public service days. We only need you once a month. The other 3 weeks are a complete waste of our tax money. The trash manages to get picked up all winter without public service days.
Now snow plowing and salting are another story. I would rather my tax money go to keep the streets safe in the winter rather than to inconvenience us every week to smear the dirt around the street. I also can see why they need the cars off the street to plow the snow properly. But it would be better to clear the streets and sweep only once a month.

I heard there are some homes for sale in Allen Park. They have lots of shopping. They don’t have neighborhood pools and libraries though. Oh wait a minute, neither do we.

Don’t quite understand why some residents had 1 pickup of leaves, some 2 and others like my street 3. I just wonder how much has to be paid out for overtime??

Gotta chime in and say the added value of putting piles upon piles of leaves in the curb, that supposed to drain rainwater into the sewers, is awesome. Loved seeing the flooded streets. Loved the decomposing leaves, too. Love seeing the diesel fuel bills to have no less than 4 vehicles cleaning up the water-sogged leaves. Love paying the fellas that have to that tedious gig.

Only one leaf pick-up on your street? Consider yourself lucky. I’ve called city hall numerous times this fall, as have my neighbors, and they finally assured us that they’d pick up leaves on our street tomorrow (yes, the Monday AFTER public service days end). I think we had street cleaners come down our street four times since April. Oh, and can we get a refund on a portion of our taxes so we can at least use that money for leaf bags next year?

This program, much like everything else in this administration, has been executed with embarrassing results. I wonder if this mayor has any reservations about showing his face in public anymore.

Now that I think about it, I can’t say I’ve seen him out and about in public much in recent months.

Our street looked worse AFTER the leaf guys came through. The sweepers often push my neighbor who doesn’t sweep his street or rake his leaves onto my property. I do think the cars should be moved and the streets swept a few times per year to flush out all the non running vehicles. But this every week thing is much too excessive and unnecessary. Vehicles have to be moved every 48 hours anyway so if you have a neighbor constantly parking in front of your house you can call. But why punish everyone because of a few inconsiderate people?
The leaf pick up is a joke and PSD’s are nothing but annoying for any home with more than 2 drivers or anyone who is home during the day and has visitors over. I think our money could be spent more wisely.

YES YES YES I think we spend too much money in the summer for Public Service Days and in the fall for leaf pick up. I would rather see the money go to the snow plow drivers and salt truck drivers. Keep our city safe that’s the bottom line. Nobody ever died from a gum wrapper in the street or a few leaves.

Hi Donna, I am a city worker and we have been working ten hour days, along with Saturday (60 hour weeks). We also worked Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving on triple time pay. Since the proposals went through there seems to be money to burn.

Amazing how the mayor finds money to blow on certain things isn’t it.
