Dearborn’s St. Alphonsus Gets Artistic Renovations

Restorations are underway at Dearborn's St. Alphonsus church.

What does the future hold for Dearborn’s St. Alphonsus Church?

With just 500 parishioners, it is hard to say but this architectural jewel at 7469 Calhoun is undergoing a substantial restoration project.

Traverse City artist Christopher Moran has the delicate job of transforming St. Alphonsus’ 35-foot altar piece, including 12 statues.

One of the real treasures in Dearborn (architecturally).

    I agree Tom.

The only problem is, when the restoration is completed the youngest parishioner will be 88 years old and in hospice. The Arch Diocess will be forced to close the church.

  4. marge says:

St. Alphonsus is truly a treasure and Catholics in Dearborn from all parishers should consider going to mass there occasionally so it can remain open.

I am not sure what all the fuss is about.

I attend St. Alphonsus and there are not any major renovations being made. The altar statues are being painted in a very subtle and distinguished manner that just enhances the beauty of the church.

    Come and see for yourself.
