The talk at Bryant was a joke, with a lot of b.s. on the Cities side. The cops who were there were only there for job security. Stop the break-ins by putting those cops on local patrols, and not doing Haddad’s and O’Reilly’s p.r.

I totally disagree with the “Levens” comment. I attended the meeting as a citizen that lives in the area, and I am a retired command officer. I have been retired for some time and wanted to know more about what was going on in our area. I thought the content of the meeting and the frankness of those that spoke and answered questions were quite informative, especially for citizens that really have no knowledge of the inner workings of law enforcement in this city. Crime is up in our area, and the officers and Chief did a pretty good job on how citizens can prevent crime with proactive measures. I have had misgivings about our police department at times over the past 37 years I have been in law enforcement, to be sure. However, I am convinced that our officers are doing a great job and are providing enforcement and protection not generally afforded other cities. Like many other occupations, they are doing considerably more with less resources. Don’t forget that most of our crime comes from those that do not live in our city. I am more than willing to give our Police Department any benefit of the doubt. There already is job security due to the Charter Amendment, but our Police Department is not complacent in doing an excellent job and not resting on past laurels. I would strongly encourage our citizens to attend one of the community meetings.

I disagree with Ken Paris. This town hall meeting is just an opportunity for the Chief to brag about the great job he thinks he is doing. The fact is crime is up due to the dumb policies of this Chief. The Dearborn Police Department use to pride itself on quality police work and arrest. Now it is all a numbers game, stats and ticket numbers have taken precedence over officers spending time in the neighborhoods with their car windows down looking for the bad guys steeling rims, breaking into cars, and breaking homes. This is what happens when you have a Chief that has not been in a patrol car for over 20 years.

In case you did not know, the Chief was an administrator in a corrupted poorly run police department (Detroit PD). I guess Mayor O’Reilly thinks Detroit PD is a premier police department.

Ken Paris also said that many of the criminal come from outside of the city. There is some truth in that statement, but with the high level of rental properties in the city; a lot of these criminal that prey on unlocked vehicles and open garages live in the neighborhoods of Dearborn!

I urge everyone attending these meeting to ask tough questions. The Chief dose not like confrontation or people who disagree with him, so prepare to see him squirm when a tough question is asked. Remember your tax dollars are paying for his 100,000 dollar a year salary, city vehicle, and fuel consumption.

I know this is hard to swallow, but I can assure you of one thing. The officers on the streets working the front lines go out every shift give 110%. The front line officers due their best despite the Chief’s bone head policies.
