Group of Dearborn Buildings Sold for Reported $1.6M
The Dearborn Atrium, formerly Adams Jr. High School, apparently has been sold for somewhere in the neighborhood of $1.6 million.

Sold in 2005 for $19 million, the Dearborn Atrium is said to have sold for about $1.6 million.
Several city officials have now confirmed to DeepsaidWhat.com that the three structures – the school, a parking deck and a third building (also formerly a school) – were fetched for the bargain basement price of $1.6 million. This is the same building that in 2005 traded for $19 million.
The big question on the table is who purchased the building and what will move into the building.
There has been much speculation that the building would be used for a charter school, but the property currently is not zoned for such a use. That at least means the city would have control on whether to approve such a use or not. As it stands now, city planners would not be in favor of such a use.
Dearborn Mayor John B. O’Reilly, Jr., says the city understands the buildings will be used as the primary operations for a business that wants to move into Dearborn. O’Reilly couldn’t provide any more detail beyond that as the city apparently does not know much about the purchaser yet.
A new business moving into that building would be great news for business owners that surround that area. Business owners near the school took a big financial hit when automotive supplier Plastech closed shop and filed for bankruptcy.
There are lots of possibilities for this building that was built in 1916. The former school was completely renovated to the shell in 1994.
The property consists of two three-story office buildings and a covered parking structure consisting of 90,774 square feet and 307 parking spaces. The two office buildings consist of 133,001 net rentable square feet and 154,104 square feet of gross building area and sit on 4.09 acres.

Deep – Just got around to reading the press and guide about the preferred developer asking for yet more time.
Any thoughts on the subject? I would like to hear your opinion and the opinions of the other readers on the subject.

Nice we need employers and employees in the area. The loss of plastech people really hurt the surrounding businesses. Hopefully they can fill it up w consumers

They should use the property next to Andiamo’s where the Fairlane Motel once stood for the proposed student housing. It would be close to UM-D and HFCC, just a bike trail away. It would also be close to the “proposed” transportation center across Michigan Avenue. Please keep student housing out of the BK development. The city should not “settle” for student housing on that property. Our home values are sliding enough in downtown Dearborn. When we bought our home in the downtown district 20 years ago it was to be close to businesses, library and other city services – not student housing! I can’t believe they are reconsidering that idea. What are they thinking?

Imam Mahdi Associates of Marjaeya (AKA – IMAN) a Muslim Non-Profit purchased the DHS/Adams/Plastech Bldg. according to the Press and Guide today: Nov. 17, 2010 for 1.6 Million. IMAM is the U.S. outreach organization of Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, according to its Website. Sistani is based out of Najaf, Iraq, the city where U.S. forces helped topple the statue of Saddam Hussein after deposing his Ba’athist regime in 2003. http://www.iman-us.org

Who bought the building in 2005?

Could someone please explain what an ‘outreach’ organization is when it is supposedly attached to this guy al-Sistani? He is the eldest and highest-ranking shia imam in Iraq, so what is he ‘outreaching’ for here in America?
I am completely suspicious of this group. I can’t imagine any good thing they mean for Dearborn. This supposedly religious man couldn’t find it within himself to tell the murderous thugs who were shooting at the US soldiers from within a mosque to put down their arms…no, he just wanted them to leave the mosque so the building wouldn’t be shot up. He basically gave them cover to escape the trap they were in, since our soldiers backed off for what was supposed to be al-Sistani’s effort to get those thugs to surrender.
Any group connected to this man is suspect.
