Dearborn Police to Step-up Traffic Enforcement
Responding to numerous traffic complaints at the onset of the spring season, Dearborn police on April 2-4 will be conducting a traffic enforcement initiative, targeting moving violations on major streets and around schools.
The Dearborn Police Department reminds citizens that safety on our roadways and around our schools is everyone’s responsibility. While Dearborn police are committed to improving safety by increasing compliance with traffic laws through education and enforcement, Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad says his department relies on the cooperation of the public to be aware of and to follow all traffic laws, whether as a pedestrian, bicyclist or motorist.
Chief Haddad reminds Dearborn citizens of the following:
• Please remember to drive safely and to wear seatbelts. State law allows police to stop a vehicle when the driver is observed not wearing a safety belt.
• Keep in mind that 20 percent of all injury traffic crashes are the result of distracted driving, especially while texting and talking on cell phones.
• State law requires vehicles to yield right-of-way to pedestrians in crosswalks.
• Forty percent of all crashes in the City of Dearborn are rear-end collisions. Keep your distance and don’t drive while distracted!
• Finally: please do not drink and drive!
“If our entire community works together to promote safe driving, we can ensure that Dearborn remains a safe place to live and work,” Haddad said.

I’m glad to hear that the police are stepping up enforcement around the schools. Maybe now they can Educate and Enforce the problem we have on Beech street with parents dropping off their kids at the bus stop.
We have a bus stop between Howard and Tenney, between 7:20 and 7:30 a.m. parents are parking on the south side of Beech with their kids in the car waiting for the bus to arrive. There is no parking on that side of Beech Monday thru Fridays, there are signs posted but parents park there anyway. They are not dropping off the students and leaving, they are sitting there with the students in the vehicles and waiting for the bus to arrive.
Beech is a busy street especially that time of the day, we have a lot of traffic and residents trying to pull out of their driveways around these parents.
I made a call to the Dearborn Police last fall and made them aware of the problem, I also placed a call to the Principal of Smith where these students go…..I never received a call back from the Principal.
Will wait to see what happens with this situation.

Chief Haddad must of pulled out some article quoting those little innuendo’s because we have know or read those same things for years, why don’t you do what you are supposed to do, and that is have zeroo tolerance around schools for a change? Don’t just talk about it do something about the violators, especially in the East End where you have your officers hand tied, because you don’t want to ruffle feathers. Show some balls foor a change Ronnie.

Try some actual police work in East Dearborn. The driving over there is insane. The City could make a fortune from Warren alone.

Levens I feel Haddad likes to see his name in the paper, just like his boss O’Reilly, but in the end they do nothing. The violators around the schools in town has gone on for a long while, because they know the administrators will do nothing — Stop the talking, and do something for a change, especially at Wm.Ford and Lowrey, along with Maples School they are a joke, letters are going to be sent to the T.V. Stations if nothing is done this spring.

I never understand why police announce the dates and locations they are going to enforce the law. Just do it every day. The first thing on that list above should be slow down. Warren and Ford are insane with people speeding and changing lanes. I live near a stop sign and people don’t even take it as a suggestion. If they gave me the power to ticket on my own corner, the city would be out of debt in one week.

They’re just stepping up traffic enforcement now. You have more cops in Dearborn than you can shake a stick at. Why wasn’t this done long ago? I always see Dearborn Police in parking lots just shooting the breeze with one another. I say it’s about time they did something and show us just why we need more cops than cities of way higher crime rates. Good luck with that though.

Kathy this is just O’Reilly and Haddads way of getting their names in front of the public, to show how they operate. The right way is your way Kathy, don’t tell the people when u are going to do something, simply do it every day. Do u want to get praised when u do something, these acts should be part of your every day jobs.

The driving in East Dearborn would be hilarious if it wasn’t so scary. Last month some one drove the length of my block backwards at 20 mph blaring his horn the whole while.

Lol.. I totally agree…I can’t believe someone actually did that. That’s insane.
