Dearborn Offers new Recycling Calendar

The city of Dearborn is making it easier for residents to remember what day to bring that big green recycling trash bin to the curb with a new calendar.

While most of us now have the routine down, every other week on trash day, it can be easy to forget.

So here is where you can download and print a new curbside recycling calendar www.cityofdearborn.org

The recycling calendar runs from July 1, 2011 to June 30, 2012 and replaces the one that came with each recycling cart and expired June 30, 2011. The new calendar was also in the last edition of the printed city newsletter, The Back Fence, which was mailed to every household in April.

It truly would be nice, if this is really “mandatory recycling”, that the recycling was picked up every week. If people really threw in ALL of what they could, like junk mail, all their cans and bottles, cardboard, etc.. if would be full every week like ours is.

I do hope that the City gives them to the Schools to pass out to their employees so that we can finally get our streets clean. We have called the school, the police, the school board and the City about the problem. We have been told by the teachers that they can park where ever they want.

It isn’t like they don’t have parking. The other side of the school has a totally different trash day.

They just don’t care but we have to pay the taxes to get non-services.

I will never vote for a tax increase of any kind.

I agree. I’ve been holding off on buying a second recycle bin from the city but, really, most of what we trash is deemed recyclable. I find myself, more and more, with less “trash” and more recyclables. An every week recycle pick up and an every other week trash pickup would work out better for us.

Unfortunately, this is a wasted effort. Does anyone really believe that those who need to download the new calendar will do so, say, in the case of senior citizens, and others who are not computer literate, or, in the case of residents who use English as a second language that they actually can read the
information? Whoever decided to do this is way out of touch with the folks who actually are not in compliance. Maybe Republic Waste should put pictures on the sides of their trucks.

If I forget if it is ‘my week or not’ I just look and see what the majority of my neighbors have put out – no problem there.

Stay away from Cedar’s Mediterranean Grill on Michigan Ave! Terrible customer service, bad management, and food you’ll want to steer clear of. They are utilizing restaurant.com for free advertising and not honoring purchased gift certificates! Be aware, manager/owner was not friendly, and not willing to work with us! We too our business owners and I would never treat customer’s the way we were treated!

How much do you pay for the city services you get cloe? Take a look at your tax bill, deduct school taxes, deduct county taxes, zoo taxes, library taxes and all the other specialty taxes other than city taxes. And then try to tell me with a straight face that you’re not getting your money’s worth in municipal services as a resident of an inner ring suburb of Detroit. Seriously, what are the numbers? Tell us how much you’re paying for all of your municipal services. I bet you don’t even know. I know what I pay and considering what this city looks like being across the street from one of the most dangerous cities in the nation, I think we’re getting our money’s worth. After you tell us how much you’re paying for municipal services, tell us how much you pay for cable TV, internet services and pet supplies.

Prediction: You’re not going to look up the numbers and post them but you’ll attack the messenger because you can’t attack the message and you’ll whine about me probably being part of “the administration”. Really, I’m not, but the whining here gets to be too much sometimes.

PS: If you want to feel like you’re living on a culdesac, don’t buy a house near a school!

I don’t speak for the Seniors, however, you can throw away that waste of money City Calendar, and keep a pool open instead, because we aren’t going to download anything. My advice is throw the calendar away, as well as O’Reilly.

I’ve been in here a few times and never had any problems. Food and service was good.

Cloe why should the teachers get preferential treatment? Ticket them like thhe rest of the violators, at least they pay taxes in Dearborn. Unlike most of the teachers.
