House Seat Race Between Darany, Sareini Heating up
The race between Dearborn Council members George Darany and Suzanne Sareini for the 15th District seat in the Michigan House of Representatives is heating up.
Republican candidate Sareini picked up on Sunday the endorsement of the Detroit Free Press. Although the paper did say “either (candidate) would serve the district well.” Just how much weight the endorsement of newspapers holds these days isn’t clear, but here is what the Free Press had to say:
“Democrat George Darany, 54, and Republican Suzanne Sareini, 59, have lined up to replace term-limited Democrat Gino Polidori. Both have served on the City Council and should be well known to voters in their hometown.
Both also have long histories of involvement with civic and community groups, and their platforms are remarkably similar with a focus on job creation, efficient government and education. Either would serve the district well.
But Suzanne Sareini, with her 20 years on the City Council compared with Darany’s two years, seems better prepared for the legislative process, with an almost ingrained urge to find consensus. She makes a good case, in particular, that she knows how to make hard choices.”

Cloe – stay tuned. I haven’t forgotten about you, I’ve just been busy at owrk and haven’t had the time to put it in writing. Also, I’m having a hard time deciding where to start! Sometimes I don’t get on her for weeks at a time but I will certainly try to answer you. In the meantime, read what I wrote and what Throw wrote and look things up on your own. One thing will lead to another and soon enough, you will know exactly what we are talking about.
October 19th, 2010 at 11:12 am
Kay – I appreciate you being busy at work. So am I. Luckily, we both have jobs.
I am looking forward to your thoughts on specifics. I have read what you both write and do a lot of research on my own. Instead of guessing or letting one thing lead to another, I would prefer hearing it directly from you because you are the one who said that I was misinformed and wrong in my thinking.
Since the election is just around the corner, it is almost over. If the Democrats win, according to most people, we will be doomed forever. If the Republicans win, everything will be fixed immediately. Don’t you agree?
October 19th, 2010 at 6:10 pm
Isn’t it interesting that someone who calls themself ‘jkade’ criticizes people who don’t use their real name?
October 19th, 2010 at 6:31 pm
Cloe your point about congress only getting paid while they are there doing something is good, you also mentioned that you don’t get paid if you don’t work, this seems to conflict with your views though. You said you are voting for the dems and yet they are the ones that extended unemployment for almost 2 years for people that don’t have to work, this is an extended hand out. I am sure you know that many newspapers including the Detroit news did research and reported that many businesses that are hiring are being told by applicants that they don’t want the job because they can sit home and make almost as much money doing nothing.
I don’t believe for a second that the republicans will fix things immediately but they will stop what the most radical president in history is doing to the country,so just stopping him is a major step in the right direction.
I think some of the republicans are cowards also, come nov 2nd they are all on probation and if they aren’t willing to do what the American voters expect them to do then they will be voted out next time.
October 19th, 2010 at 9:21 pm
Cloe, Absolutely not, I do not agree with that statement. There is a fundamental difference between a conservative and a republican. Conservatives are Constituionalists who believe is small government, low taxes, free markets and individual freedoms. It is like the definition of a rectangle and a square. Every square is a rectangle but not every rectangle is a square. Likewise, every conservative is a republican but all republicans are not conservative. Some are neo-conservatives or RINOs. If the Republicans take back the House or the Senate, or both, we will have a balance of power once again. However, if the Republicans do not stick to the principals of the Republican party, we will still be headed down this same destructive path. They need to look to the Founders, to Ronald Reagan. Read “Liberty and Tyranny” by Mark Levin. This book was written before Obama was elected, keep that in mind. Go to http://www.heritage.org. This is a wonderful site that will give you the facts you need. Do not rely on the media. They are not impartial, on either side.

Michigan Ave. : First, I never commented on anyone’s spelling, punctuation, or grammar. Thats not how I roll. Please cite a post where I have done this. You cant, because it never happened. That being said I have corrected poorly reasoned, and factually incorrect statements like yours.
People who are in the Tea Party are not conservative financially, historically, or philosophically. The Tea Party is simply a group of aging baby boomers, facing the harsh realities of a globally integrated economy. Their frustrations are illogical and rooted in emotion. They have been organized and given a platform, by a Republican party intent on regaining power that was lost is 06 and 08.
The Tea Party was created 32 days into the Obama administration. Every problem the Tea Party rails against existed from the very beginnings of the 00′ Bush Administration. Why did this party not oppose government spending, federal overreach, immigration reform and health care spending when these policies were advocated by Bush ?
The answer is: The Tea Party was created, organized, and funded by advocates of the Republican party. That is why every single Tea Party candidate is running on the Republican ticket. The Tea Party is not some new movement in American politics, it is simply the radical fringes of the right wing. This same mantra of states rights, minority objectification, and white victimization, has existed in America since it’s very beginning. It’s was called the KKK in the 20’s, John Birch Society in the late 50’s, and the States Rights Movement in the 60’s.
The argument is always the same: foreigners, people of color, religion, and radical political groups want your stuff.
The people and groups are interchangeable. First it was Catholics now it’s Muslims. Before the movements rallied against the Irish, and Slavic peoples, now it’s Hispanics. Before it was Communists, now it’s liberals and progressives. See, the evildoers are interchangeable, but the victims are always the same. The victim is always hard working, patriotic, Christian, white people. The result of this movement, will be the same as all the others. It will succeed in the very short run , and then fizzle like a wet firecracker. In ten years no one will ever admit they were part of this foolishness.
Michigan Ave, you claim I cowardly hide behind the internet. the coward is one who finds himself in hard times and bullies the weak. The two examples you give of why society is collapsing is women working out of the home, and people in Section 8 housing.
The truth is the world is getting smaller, more crowded, and competitive. Jobs are getting more specialized, skills more difficult to attain, and wealth more unevenly distributed. Working hard is not enough anymore, you have to compete with people in India, China, and illegal migrant labor.
Was it people on welfare who created trade deals with foreign countries that benefitted the Chinese and Trans National corporations over the American citizen ?
Was it Women working out of the home who created the data transfer technologies, that eliminated millions of middle management jobs ?
Was it people in section 8 housing who employ millions of illegal immigrants to do low skilled menial labor ?
Is it the people with free cell phones spending 800 billion dollars on defense appropriations?
Do you really think the illegal immigrant picking vegetables in the Imperial Valley, who makes less than the minimum wage, so you can have an all you can eat salad bar at Old Country Buffet is your enemy ?
Another fact you incorrectly cite through a clever quote of Ronald Reagan is that Reagan cut government spending. Reagan did not cut government spending.
Under Reagan federal spending was 25% higher adjusted to inflation than when he took office. The federal workforce increased from 2.8 million to 3 million under Reagan.
That being said the federal government in relation to GDP shrank from 22.2% to 21.2% in the eight years of Reagan’s presidency. Quoting Ronald Reagan on fiscal conservatism is absolutely priceless, and it shows the absolute baselessness of your arguments.
Michigan Ave I am sure your reply will be “Sure a left wing elitist egghead brainwashed by progressive media” No. I am a conservative product of a public university who can tell fact from fiction.
I digress now on to part two.
As a fiscal conservative i see out of control government spending as a distortion of the free market. Here are some federal appropriations I am sure you will agree should be at the top of the Tea Party Hit list. 100 billion dollars in sole source non competitive contracts in Iraq in 2006, 5 billion dollars in loan guarantees given to Boeing from the EX-IM bank, 2.5 billion dollars in loan guarantees given to GE, the Overseas private Investment Corporation allocating $50 million in free insurance to a silver mine in Bolivia, 3 billion dollars in subsidies to Exxon to build a natural gas project in Papua New Guinea, 160 billion dollars to bailout AIG, or $45 billion dollars to Bank of America to buy Merrill Lynch, and the hundreds of billions of dollars of government largess that bought Citigroups “Troubled Assets”.
The Tea Party does not have a problem with billions of dollars of no bid contacts in Iraq, multi billion dollar loan guarantees to Boing and Exxon, Free insurance to Bolivian silver mines, or hundreds of billions to Citigroup, but you have a problem with people in section 8 housing ?
The true cowards are the people hiding behind trite bumper stickers, and under tri corner hats claiming victim status all the while carrying the water for trans-national corporations.
Means tested entitlements account for less than %6 of the federal budget. This includes your free phones, section 8 for smelly, infested hole in the wall hovels, and food stamps for Faygo and lotto tickets.
When the Tea Party has their day in November, just remember the WHO lyrics
“Say hello to the new boss same as the old boss”

This thread is about Sareini vs Darany.
What I want to know is how a bankrupt career politician Like Sareini deserves a promotion to state rep?
Sareini has lots of experience busting both personal and civic budgets, so she is the perfect Tea Party candidate.
Twenty years on council and she waits till now to run. This is a prime example of political opportunism.
The Republican leadership knows she is a longshot Thats why the did not run her in 2004. The Party thought Doug Thomas was a better candidate.
Seriously Dearborn why even consider a candidate who stands in line behind Doug Thomas?
The only Qualification Sareini has is perfect attendance picking up her City of Dearborn payroll check.

Hey Mr. Reality Bites….you are absolutely and factually incorrect. The anger in your words is astounding and spoken like a true liberal who cannot have a decent debate without having a temper tantrum. Therefore, there is no use in responding to you. Michigan Ave., don’t waste your typing energy on this one. He’s lost to the drones. Let them have him.

“The Detroit News did research and found applicants, turned down work”
Classic. First off you are wrong. The Detroit News did not do any research. The article you cite was a complete disaster. It was a poorly constructed, garbled mess with absolutely no factual base whatsoever. It simply quoted a couple of business owners who claimed they could not find workers. This article would never have made it past the editor 5 years ago. It was complete garbage, and was factually incorrect. At the time the article was printed the Department of Labor estimated there were 5 applicants for every job opening.
Coincidently this same story ran in multiple newspapers on the same day by different authors. The reason it was a one day story was because it was a complete fabrication. Sorry “throw the bums out” you did not get the memo that your evidence was based on complete nonsense. For your information if an argument is solely dependent on what a person says with no verifiable evidence or data it is poorly constructed argument. So basing your arguments on what Rush,Beck,Levin, or the man on the moon says without factual evidence makes you look foolish. That being said denying objective facts that you disprove your arguments is also foolish.
I suggest that the sycophants of the right wing media noise machine, keep preaching to the choir at the gun and knife shows or stick to bullying uninformed people at their work. There is a growing community of critical thinkers on this board who will continue to make short work of your arguments. See you guys at the Gibralter Trade Center. Thank you and good day.
PS. Your right wing screeds would sound much better with dueling banjos in the background.
October 21st, 2010 at 2:29 pm
Hey Kay, cite one fact that I have stated that is incorrect. You cant. Why ? because you are incapable of doing any research outside of right wing sources. Maybe I should put bright colors and type in size 16 font with plenty of pictures. Thats all you really want anyhow. You want clever sayings that fit on a bumper sticker or t-shirt, anything more scares you. What was the last book you read Kay? Did it come with crayones taped to the cover? Lost to the drones?
As for Mich Ave I bet you thought that all those lines of type, made you feel real clever. Did hitting the return key 100 times make you feel like an intellectual ? To bad it was a garbled bunch of JR. high logic. What did you hope to prove by writing line after line of factually incorrect historical gunk?
Do you really you would have been better off in 1902. My guess is you would have. Then you could denigrate blacks, muslims, mexicans, women, and jews openly and freely. Only then it would be over the din of a two ton press, or more than likely in the squalid heat of a Mississippi cotton field.
As for a debate, I would like that. However all I ever get from Kay or Throw out the bums or Mich Ave, is a fourth grade paraphrasing of the Chuck Colson show. Sorry I already heard your posts when Rush first said it between 12-3pm on WJR. If you are going to riff your lines from Rush can you at least be as entertaining and original as him? Ripping off quotes, and arguments from Newsmax is hardly engaging in debate. It is the end result of a simple person engaged in a futile act of desperation, attempting to comprehend a difficult and complex world.
Ignore me I don’t care. I wont ignore you. The entire modus operandi of the Tea Party is to bully people with convoluted facts, and outright fabrications. You wont win here because since the invention of the internet I can fact check all your crackpot theories and put them down with a simple Google search. I am sure you heard about Google because I doubt you know how to use a URL window.
October 21st, 2010 at 7:33 pm
reality bites: sareini went bankrupt because she raised 4 kids and took care of her dying mother in her home for 3 years–at the expense of her business career. plus, she went through a the divorce and death of her husband and longtime partner. to criticize someone for filing for bankruptcy is not only disgusting, but it shows that you are out of touch with the milllions of americans also struggling to make ends meet as they sacrifice for the sake of their children or their partners. george darany wouldnt know about that because he’s never sacraficed for anyone (well, thats not fair to say. he’s just never understood what its like to be married, or to raise college-graduate children).
and to say that spending 20 years as a civil servant is just playing a waiting game is a complete joke. since when is sacrificing 20 years to listen to dearborn citizens bitch taking the easy road? do you think she got paid for all the work she put in to that little local position? if anything you should be proud of a woman who stuck with the city for that long, and who has the support of her peers in the government (go to a council meeting: everyone who works with her loves and respects her…you didn’t hear it from me but 90% of the ppl in the dearborn city office endorse her, including the mayor). THAT SAYS A LOT, and so ‘reality bites’ needs a reality check.
Your arguments are also bizarre in that you’re angry at suzanne for her 20 years of experience on the city council, but you forgot that george decided 60 days into his first elected term as councilperson to run for state rep. do you want the gal who paid her dues, and PROVED shes dedicated? who sat for twenty years before her peers literally BEGGED her to run? (let me repeat: it took TWENTY years) or the chump who comes in, gets a job, then immediately bolts for a pay raise? it’s not even comparable.
in conclusion: georges talking points wont suffice here in ‘reality’. his namecalling and partisan crap goes beyond politics…the guy lies out of his teeth in a commericial but cant muster up the confidence to say a word (even a hello) in the presence suzanne. and its not like shes intimidating…he’s just very weaselly!!
haha happy voting bloggers

“reality bites” is a classic liberal, still taking his que from the state run media of attacking and trying to slander and poke fun of those they are threatened by. If i was him i would be just as angry,he is 13 days away from seeing his liberal ideology be crushed forever by the biggest conservative movement in the last 100 years lol

Sorry John L…
I am not out of touch. Were the Neiman Marcus charges for her kids?
As for taking care of her family at the expense of her business, that shows a serious lack of priorities, organizational and managerial skills. People are responsible for their personal obligations. Maybe she should have taken a break from council, if she was overwhelmed. Why should her suppliers, many of whom are small businesses get the shaft, because she was overwhelmed with her civic duties. Never mind her employees. She is out of touch. Out of touch with the concept of fiduciary obligations.
Since when do republicans advocate for people running up charge card debts at posh department stores than not paying?
I never dined and dashed at her restaurant. Why is it ok for her.
Many people in this area have suffered job loss, death, illness and foreclosure, they don’t get any sympathy from the Republican party. Neither will she. What is good for the goose is good for the gander.
As for her twenty years of sacrifice cry me a river. Twenty years on Dearborn City Council showing up late and ill prepared is no sacrifice it is a catastrophe.
As for the Mayor supporting her more than enough reason not to vote for her. Everyone knows she was O’Reilly’s stooge.
As for likability, irrelevant. She was not very likable to Tom Talfalski this last election.
Nobody begged Suzanne for anything but the debt collectors who want their money back.
She is simply a mess in every conceivable way. She has not done anything to warrant a job. With her financial mess she is ineligible for employment as an ordinance officer in this city and now she wants to help balance Michigan’s budget. If the Police chief cant hire her to catch stray dogs, how can you trust her writing legislation? Give me a break.
Oh and don’t think the people the 4000 people who support Dearborn outdoor pools will forget her rubber stamp of the Mayors scheme.
Oh and you guys can quit it with the Darany never been married thing. Who’s buyin your crap. What are you trying to imply ? I see George in church every Sunday. He takes my Sunday offering. Does Sareini go to church? If she did would you trust her with your offering?
Ill take an unmarried man over a habitually late, disorganized, ill prepared, uneducated, bankrupt crybaby, who wanted to waste tax payer money on splash parks.
Did she get permission from Doug Thomas to Run?
Suzanne Sareini a real go getter not ! …..unless theirs a sales at Neiman’s.
PS…. Memo to Saul Anusis
Please run credit checks on your candidates. The Republican party cannot be the party of financial accountability with dead beat candidates boasting a 400 FICO
October 22nd, 2010 at 12:40 pm
Just what good does it do to run-down either of these candidates? Or for that matter, any of the candidates!
October 22nd, 2010 at 4:19 pm
Anyone who declares personal bankruptcy twice is a habitual dead beat. End of story. Sareini belongs in debtors prison.
October 23rd, 2010 at 10:21 am
To Donna Hay… stating that Sareini habitually runs up bills she has no intention on paying for is not a run down. She declared personal bankruptcy twice. Not once twice. She is late more than not and she shows up unprepared. She was an advocate for closing the pools. In Tom Tafelski’s absence she cannot properly run a council meeting. These are facts.
Implying that being a bachelor precludes one from office, or that ambition should be stifled, thats running down a candidate.
You just cant handle the truth.
October 23rd, 2010 at 3:07 pm
Reality Bites – when you are ready to sign your ‘given name’ maybe we can continue this conversation.
October 23rd, 2010 at 11:32 pm
to Donna Hay…. I don’t have to give my name. i am not here for a relationship, or friendly companionship. This is how the internet works girl. Get used to it.
If you don’t like it, your argument is with the internet not me.
I don’t make the rules. Maybe you should call up the president of the internet and complain to him.
October 24th, 2010 at 5:59 pm
Reality Bites – I just figured that if you stood behind what you have/will write you wouldn’t have a problem signing your name. A relationship…………lol.
October 24th, 2010 at 8:29 pm
Dona Hay, use friend finder its easier.
Is one of my facts incorrect? Which one?
Oh ya ,
I grew up on Oakman with Sareini’s kids 30 years ago, This mother act is old literally
I stand behind everything i write with facts
Don’t argue me argue the facts
I don’t hate Obama that much that I would violate all sense of decency and vote for a person who has zero credit and zero credibility.
October 24th, 2010 at 10:48 pm
Donna, Reality is an awful person. You don’t deserve his nastiness, you are always polite and respectiful. No matter what he writes, he challenges everyone to point out which of his facts is incorrect. Who has time? Although as many of us pointed out in great detail how his version of “facts” regarding the Constituiton and the 1st ammendment are so obviously incorrect, he still does not seem to get it. I’m wondering now if he just can’t read. Anyway, he is hateful, and I just wanted to show you some support.
October 25th, 2010 at 7:30 am
Thanks Kay, I didn’t even challenge him/her on any of his/her facts. Oh well………..time to move on.
October 25th, 2010 at 12:29 pm
Who has time to challenge the facts? My point exactly your entire case is nonsense. Case closed
