Detroit Mayor Bing to Speak in Dearborn May 12

Mayor Dave Bing

Detroit Mayor Dave Bing will be at the Henry Ford Estate in Dearborn on May 12 to discuss how business can lead Detroit and the surrounding area to success.

His talk, sponsored by Oakwood Healthcare System and presented by the Dearborn Chamber of Commerce as part of their Business Builders Breakfast, begins at 8 a.m. Tickets are $30 for Chamber members and $40 for non-members.

Bing, a businessman and seven-time All-Star professional basketball player for 12 seasons with the NBA, was elected as the 70th mayor of the city of Detroit last November.

β€œI think the old way of running the city has gotten us where we are,” Bing has said. β€œIt’s not going to work. Politics has led the city for a long time. I think it’s time for business to lead the city.”

No matter how bad things may appear financially in Dearborn with our budget crisis, it is nothing compared to what Mayor Bing faces in Detroit. Detroit is without a doubt, in the worst shape of any city in America and I don’t envy the job Mayor Bing has taken upon himself. I hope he can pull this off someday, because as much of a mess as Detroit is, in my opinion, if it doesn’t turn around, it will negatively impact the Metro Detroit area significantly.

  2. Just Business says:

Since he likes to use a business analogy, how was Mayor Bing’s steel business doing at the time he was elected?

  3. vincent says:

Too bad Mayor Bing isn’t our Mayor, because he will at least make the hard decisions that need to be made, however, in Detroit it probably is too late.

  4. Wanting Better for Dearborn says:

Dearborn is starting to look like Detroit. Abandon houses, empty store fronts and City Hall corruptions. I agree this City needs help but I don’t think Bing is the answer. Fix your own City first then we’ll be ready to listen.
