Councilwoman Sareini Will Seek 15th District Seat

Suzanne Sareini

Twenty-year Dearborn Councilwoman Suzanne Sareini, who finished as the second top voter getter in the last election and now serves as council pro-tem, will officially announce later this month that she is running for the 15th District seat in the Michigan House of Representatives.

Sareini confirms to DeepsaidWhat.com that after long, careful consideration, she will declare her candidacy on April 27 for the seat of state Rep. Gino Polidori, D-Dearborn, who cannot seek re-election because of term limits.

“I know it won’t be easy, and the decision to seek the seat wasn’t without careful consideration,” Sareini says. “I have been urged by friends and neighbors to run. With my 20 years of legislative experience, I intend to win because I think that in this election experience will count.”

We had written on these pages earlier that Sareini would likely throw her hat into the ring for the 15th District seat back in February, as she was being urged by Republican Party leaders to run for the position. Sareini said she plans to hold a gathering for her supporters at Crave on April 27th from 5 to 7 p.m.

Her decision brings to two the number of sitting Dearborn council members seeking the 15th District seat in the Michigan House of Representatives. Dearborn Councilman George Darany also is running but on the democrat side of the ticket.

“I am a Republican who has been an independent voice on the council,” Sareini said. “I know how crucial it is to look at an issue from the perspective of what is good for Dearborn, not what is good for an ideological cause.”

It’s reassuring that a candidate with legislative experience wants to represent Dearborn in Lansing. It’s no secret that Dearborn has been short changed in Lansing over the last few years in school funding and revenue sharing. Now both the city budget and schools budget is in dire condition because we didn’t have someone on Lansing that would put it on the line and fight for our fair share. What have the Dearborn citizens received form Representative Poladori and Governor Granholm?…Not much, and I’m a Democrat that voted for them. The governor has failed to lead, Poladori has failed to represent us and Lansing is a failing mess.

What should we expect from George Darany (modern version of George Hart looking for a bigger paycheck) who has yet to complete his first term on the city council and wants to jump to office. What’s his next office then, taking on John Dingle for congress? He is best to stay on council and complete at lest one term before bolting. Not much to say about Tom Tafelski mother (nepotism) who is also running. She has zero experience.

Don’t know how Sareini will do, but her 20 years of legislative experience will certainly give us a fighting chance. As of today Sareini has my vote.

Gosh….can’t wait to see what candid photos her campaign will use to try to defame the other candidates.

  3. Hakim says:

Suzanne you have me and my families support. At least we will be represented, like when Big Gino just rubber-stamped everything Jennifer wanted him to vote fore (that spineless weasel).

I cannot thing of single qualification this person has to run for statewide office. Twenty years on the city council, this is a not something to brag about. While Sareini was on city council the Montgomery Ward Deal went down, two useless parking garages were built, and both east and west end downtown development floundered. Now due to city council incompetence, bureaucratic graft, and executive failures this city faces a $20 million dollar deficit. Sareini’s solution to this debacle close the pools and build splash parks. It is time the people of Dearborn demand more from our elected officials. Qualifications for statewide office some should include some sort of accomplishment beyond campaigning for votes in city paid senior housing, and attending homecoming.

We need someone like you to help the people of Dearborn, not like we have been used to with your predessor.

  6. Joe says:

Well said forth generation resident!! I see nothing that she has done to get me to want her to take her incompetence to Lansing. As for Tafelski, I think the teachers union has enough pull in Lansing with the MEA we certinally do not need more pro-teachers union running our state!

  7. Turk182 says:

I think that Councilwoman Suzanne Sareini didn’t get the memo, the memo that says that the movement in every state across the country is to oust Democrats and useless moderate shape shifting Republicans.
Probably not a good time for her to run for anything.

  8. Sean says:

Another sorry addition to an incompetent State Legislature, these are sad days for the Republic.

  9. Allen H. Mallad says:

Although Suzanne is my sister, I say with all candor she is by far the most qualified person to run for state office in the last twenty years, I have asked her many times why would you want to put yourself through the trouble of representing the non caring public who keep sending unqualified people to Lansing, but she is committed to do the best job she can as she has always done for the past twenty years as councilwoman, our district will be fortunate to have her as our next representati in Lansing. Go get them kid.

As for Mr. fourth generation resident there were six other council persons and two Mayors, and residents who sent more unqualified people to office then I care to mention, experence counts and Suzanne has it, maybe you should throw your hat into the ring and we will see what you can do.

  10. Disgusted with Dearborn says:

You are one of the last people we need representing us in Lansing!

  11. pdmom says:

Oh my goodness, no way. Turk182 and fourth generation, I couldn’t agree more. Well put, both of you. She is absolutley NOT what we need in Lansing. I am laughing thinking about it. End her reign in Dearborn. Lord!

  12. oldalldayschoolmom says:

Don’t worry too much about this. There are more candidates who will emerge between now and the May 11th filing deadline.

  13. MyTwoSenseToo says:

Voting for Suzzane Sareini is like voting for Debbie Stabenow, Carl Levin, John Conyers, “Cheeks” Kilpatrick and John Dingell. The label is just different. NO THANK YOU!

I think we need people that don’t look like they need blood transfusions.

  14. disappointed says:

What??? She doesn’t even knows what is happening on the council and she wants to go to LANSING. There is more to government thinking than someone’s trash being picked upped or street being cleaned. It’s like a big difference between a Dollar Store and Macy’s and Suzanne you are still on the Dollar Store mentality. Do yourself a FAVOR and find a better outlet!

  15. Hassen says:

Disappointed you are wrong, after all Gino Polidori has been in Lansing for a while, and he barely remembers how to get back and forth. Believe me Suzanne would do a better job than what Gino has done for us.
