I just had a few thoughts after watching the Mayoral Forum.

Interesting answer on the tree question… I really don’t understand how Dearborn keeps its tree city status. It must not be something difficult to maintain. Mayor O’Reilly mentions that the city makes sure that any trees removed due to construction are replaced on a tree by tree basis… Well, two years later, the trees that were removed for an unnecessary widening of my street have yet to be replaced. My question to him 2 years ago on when I could expect them to be replaced went unanswered. I guess the city is exempt from making itself replace trees it removes?

As far as corruption beyond the front line individuals… Let’s say he’s right and Norwood had no part in the corruption. If that’s true then he had no control of his department. Either way he doesn’t seem like the kind of employee I would want to keep around.

As for the embarrassing incident with Edward Sanchez I’m not sure what to believe. Yes, the incident happend in Dearborn Heights before O’Reilly was mayor but was he eventually prosecuted? In May of 2007, after O’Reilly became mayor, Sanchez was allowed to resign in lieu of facing charges. I can’t seem to find any news articles mentioning his prosecution.

As for letting his record of the last 20 years stand for itself… Does he really want to say that? A lack of innovative thinking or vision, a business district that went from unhealthy to dead, corruption at various levels of city government, lawsuits in the BK development and the CSO project.

Unfortunately for Mr. Prus I don’t think he was able to communicate his ideas effectively. I did like his idea of creating a business incubator.

In fact, I think an incubator on the Montgomery Ward’s site would have proven a far better use of that land than yet another medical center (a highly specialized building that when its useful life comes up will again be a hulking ruin to deal with). One only needs to look as far as Detroit’s TechTown to see an incubator that has transformed ideas from local entrepreneurs into international businesses in a matter of a few years.

Did you notice O’Reilly changed his endorsements? He started out supporting all 7 existing Council people. Now, his new mailing only supports 4 out of the 7 and one new person. Flip flopping already?

  3. Abe says:

As for letting his record of the past 20 yrs. stand for itself, how about the promotion system he has promoting inept people, such as Dave Norwood to the Mayors Office no less. He knows its still corrupt in other offices, and turns his fat neck the other way. Good leadership Big Fella.

  4. rami says:

I understand that Norwood isn’t the only guy, you have promoted to keep him quiet, however, I understand that one of the others is ready to blow up on you.

  5. Kay says:

The people of Dearborn had better wake up. Mayor O’Reilly is another on in permanent campaign mode. He has done nothing to improve the city and the police department is going to heck quickly. Further, where was our Superintendent of Schools when the Governor announced the cuts to our schools? I hear the students are or will be down to 6 classes. Why was the Livonia Superintendent the only one who made a statement on WJR with Frank Beckman? The Police Chief in this city also needs to go. If he continues to weaken our beloved Police Department, we will soon go the way of Detroit. He is tying the hands of law enforcement and with Kim Worthy as the Prosecutor, they are recycling criminals constantly. Isn’t it bad enough that we have been run out of our own mall? That there are full time officers patroling the mall on weekend nights at least? Wake up Dearborn!! Get involved. The city needs every citizen to know what is going on. The country needs every citizen to wake up before it is too late!!! The time is now!

  6. MyTwoSenseToo says:

As far as I can tell Mr. Prus is beholding to no one in this city. That is why I will be voting for him. Even if it means on the job experience.

  7. Getting Screwed says:

My Two Sense Too has the right idea. Get rid of all of them starting with the Mayor.

  8. pdmom says:

I am voting for Prus too, as are some of my neighbors. We have had it with all of these people. O’Reilly talks about his 20 years of experience. How has that experience helped out city?

  9. Donna Hay says:

Read this in a Vote to re-elect Mayor O’Reilly mailed to my house yesterday -“Of the fine candidates running for City Council, there are 5 who I believe have consistently put Dearborn’s interests first. They are Council Pres. Pro Tem Nancy Hubbard, Councilman Mark Shooshanian, Councilwoman Suzanne Sareni, Councilman Bob Abraham and David Buzzy.” The mayor also said, “They are the key ingredients to move Dearborn forward.”

  10. MyTwoSenseToo says:

    MAYOR O’REILLY’S TRICK OR TREAT?

Where is the local government responsibility?

Believe me, I see it as a disaster but it would serve the mayor right if Nancy Hubbard makes Council President. What an embarrasment to his administration.

In the name of Fiscal responsibility, lets support Bob Abraham. He’s all about paying taxes. *NOT*

Mark Shooshanian??? After he is elected he will be back to playing video games on his computer during the council meetings.

I read somewhere that David Bazzy had something to do with the Ward’s debacle.

    HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

  11. Helloooooo says:

Bazzy recommended raising our taxes while on the Charter Commission so that is way O’Reilly loves him.

Abraham didn’t pay his taxes and O’Reilly is supporting him. Maybe they have dirt on each other.

Shooshanian knows nothing, says nothing, does nothing so he fits right in with O’Reilly’s administration.

Sareni is a phony. All of a sudden she is all about the ‘family business’ when she has hated the man for how long? Says what you want to hear then says the opposite when your back is turned.

Hubbard is Weekend at Bernie’s. Prop her up and push the button when it is time to read the obits.

This is who our Mayor wants so he can continue to run amok and none of the above will complain or interfer.

Tafelski cheats his employer, cheats our City by not paying his fair share in taxes and abuses his power with getting tickets fixed.

I’d take Thomas before any of the above. A part time something is better than a bunch of full time nothings.

Vote all of them out on Tuesday and give our City a new, corrupt free start.

  12. OldDearborn says:

Is this serious? The mayor says Nancy Hubbard is a key ingredient in moving Dearborn forward? If you want a city council that will do whatever the mayor wants, you have the list of who to vote for.
