Dearborn Farmer & Artisan Market Seeks Volunteers
Dearborn’s Farmer’s and Artisan Market, which is preparing for its second season beginning June 5, is in need of
volunteers to promote the market, set-up and tear down and assist with general operations.
The market will have a new location this year, outside on the property of the Bryant Library, at the corner of Michigan and Mason.
Many of us here have expressed our support in words or by visiting the Market, which is hosted by the Dearborn Chamber of Commerce, but now is our chance to offer some physical volunteer support.
The Farmer’s and Artisan Market is exactly what Dearborn needs to boost foot traffic and bring some life to our downtown. Helping it to continue to be a success is something all of us in Dearborn can contribute to.
Nearly 25 vendors will again provide local produce each Friday beginning June 5 and running until Oct. 30 between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.
For those interested, a special volunteer meeting will be held at the Chamber Offices, 15544 Michigan Ave., (just west of Greenfield) on March 19 at 9:30 a.m. Additional information can be obtained by writing Joan Reed, the manger for the Farmer’s Market, at jreed@dearbornchamber.org

Seriously who can shop 8am-1pm? Stay at home parents, retirees? Why not do something for Dearborn realizing that in some houses there is not someone home all day??

Hey, Mary Northville holds their market on Thursdays during the day and it is a huge success. Nothing wrong with the time. Most people have a lunch hour and can make it if they desire. So stop complaining and support.

People, especially families are together, they bring their brats, strollers, dogs, etc.

I think you’ve got it backward there Eddie. The people hosting this thing should stop complaining that no one is coming when they have it during the middle of the work day when the only ones who can show up are stay at home moms who are between Spongebob and the Teletubbies.

While I was able to go last summer because I am a teacher, I do think we’d get an even better turnout on a Saturday. It’s something to consider. I will support it no matter what, but I think reviewing the day it is on would be beneficial.

I suspect that the vendors are already booked in the larger farmer markets on saturday. Saturday is the day for Eastern Market.

Based upon the story last year on this same site, Al is correct. The vendors are already booked on the weekends for other Farmers Markets that have been successful for quite some time. But these same vendors have stated that if our DTWD Farmers Market continues to grow and succeed, they will hire the necessary staff to have it eventually on weekends if that is what the customers desire. So that’s all the more reason for us to continue to support it in it’s present form and time and then eventually we may be able to have it on weekend days like Saturdays.

Since LX’s institution is only one block away, and he runs his place of employment, I recommend that LX volunteer for the farmers market.
